Meet the Maker: Jun Lee of Eir NYC

Follain Eir Jun Lee

Spring is in the Eir! See what we did there? We're so excited for you to meet Jun Lee, founder of one of our favorite suncare lines, Eir NYC.  Eir (pronounced 'air') is an organic body care line for men and women with active lifestyles and Jun Lee's sleekly packaged Zinc-Oxide based SPF products are packed with delicious ingredients and are of course, ultra effective.  Ahead of her visit to our Beacon Hill shop on Tuesday, March 29th, we sat down with Jun to chat a bit about her amazing line.

Tell us about the inception of Eir, named after the Norse goddess of healing, so cool!
Yes she, in Old Norse, also means help or Mercy.

Your unique packaging has a very sporty vibe. Is Eir just for athletes?
Not at all. My good friend, creative director Kyle Goen and I wanted to create packaging that reads very simple, utilitarian, first aid vibe. The cross in the middle is inspired by the lifeguard symbol representing aid and protection.

Sir Surf Mud Pro and Surf Mud Oil

In addition to robust physical blocking ingredients, many of your products have cocoa powder. Can you tell us about the importance of antioxidants in sun care?
Studies show that the antioxidant properties of the flavanols in cocoa powder give the skin extra protection against free radicals. In addition, cocoa powder helps to give the skin a nice bronzing effect.

What are some of your favorite healing practices besides skincare?
I practice zazen which is a zen tradition meditation. I also eat very healthy--no refined sugar, wheat, dairy and alcohol. I make sure to get a good night's sleep and I spend a whole lot of time in the ocean, surfing!

And finally, just for fun, what makes up your Follain Five?
Obsessed with: RMS Lip Shine in Sacred, Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation, Ursa Major 4-in-1 Face Tonic, Earth tu Face Botanical Perfume in Geranium+Vetiver, and of course Eir Surf Mud Pro!
