Unless you've spent time at our Nantucket store (where she mans the helm during the summer months) you may not have met Ashley in person. Off season, she's the behind the scenes mastermind that keeps the Follain stores running like clock work and makes sure we have the best team possible. Ashley takes both her health and her teams very seriously and is passionate about staying active and treating her body well, from the inside out. She's one of the busiest people we know so we were especially curious to find out what she squeezes into her beauty ritual.
Since we ask this question to everyone that walks in the store, how would you describe YOUR skin type?
I would describe my skin as combination, sometime dry, sometime oily and I have the occasional stress-related mild breakout.
What is your morning beauty ritual?
My morning ritual consists of me splashing warm water on my face to wake up. I then use one of my favorite products from Indie Lee, the COQ-10 toner which I put on a cotton round and wipe over my face and neck. To moisturize I use the Kahina Argan Oil which I now feel like I can’t live without, it’s so hydrating! Using my ring fingers, I gently dab the Kahina Eye Serum around my eyes. And lastly, for those extra dry spots, especially in this chilly weather, I use the Skincando Combat-Ready Balm. On the days I wear makeup, I wear a whole mix of products. I use the W3ll People Narcissist #3 for the sunspots and redness around my face. Next up I use the RMS lip2cheek Smile for my blush. For my mascara I use the Jane Iredale Longest Lash in Espresso. Every once in awhile I use the W3ll People Bio Brightener Stick around my eyes to help brighten up the eye area.
What is your evening beauty ritual?
My evening ritual is similar to what I do in the morning except I wash my face first. To wash my face I switch between the Farmaesthetics Fine Herbal Cleanser and the Acure Brightening Cleanser and then repeat my morning ritual. For the stress-related breakouts, I use the Indie Lee Blemish Lotion, only at night.
What is the one product you can’t live without?
I can’t live without the Skincando Combat-Ready Balm…this is heaven in a jar. I carry it around everywhere and use it for my super dry skin spots but also on my cuticles and even as a lip balm at times.
What unsafe conventional product had been the toughest for you to give up?
I think the toughest product for me to give up is my Essie nail polish. It’s been really hard to find a completely safe nail polish and who doesn’t love a little color on their nails?
Aside from skincare, what’s one ritual that makes you feel the most beautiful?
I love spinning! After a good spin, I feel energized, healthy, and a calm sense of having been emotionally and physically cleansed.
What 3 tips would give others to help them feel and look beautiful every day?
- Drink a lot of water, stay hydrated!
- Keep smiling!
- Be yourself!
What’s the best piece of beauty advice your mother ever gave you?
What are your favorite foods that promote beauty from the inside out?
I’m always up for a delicious salad and basically any green vegetable. I also eat berries as often as possible, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are some of my favorites!
We often abide by the 80/20 rule. Treat your body right 80% of the time and splurge 20% of the time. So....what's your 20%?
Pepperoni pizza is my guilty pleasure and, at times, it probably makes up closer to a 30% splurge if you add Annie’s mac and cheese – yum!
What’s the biggest beauty mistake you ever made?
I’m not sure I would call this a mistake but I’ve never actually had a facial, I’ve been told your skin will thank you!
What DIY beauty routines do you do at home?
To be honest, I don’t do a whole lot of DIY, one because I don’t have enough time and two, I get everything I need from Follain! Sometimes when I can’t find my makeup remover, I grab some EVOO, it works like a charm!
What is your favorite way to stay healthy through exercise?
Besides spinning, I love to go for a quick jog or a long walk. Right now, I’ve been bundling up and hitting the slopes!
