Follain Family Beauty Rituals: Isabel Hibbard of the South End

If you've ever stopped by our South End shop, chances are you've gotten the chance to have an inspiring conversation with Isabel. Isabel is one of our most knowledgeable educators and she's always there to hold your hand while you make the transition to healthy products. In celebration of her one year anniversary with Follain, we asked Isabel to share the secrets to her own beauty ritual and healthy, wholesome lifestyle.

Since we ask this question to everyone that walks in the store, how would you describe YOUR skin type?

My skin changes all the time. I would say that I’m more on the oily side, although, since I’ve switched over to all healthy products, my skin is much more balanced.

What is your morning beauty ritual?

My morning ritual is pretty basic. I start off with a mug of hot water with lemon wedges and tone with the CoQ10 Toner, apply One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum and top everything off with the Antioxidant Crème

What is your evening beauty ritual?

My evening routine starts with cleansing my face with raw honey if I don’t have makeup on. If I do, I remove it with either coconut oil or jojoba oil. I follow cleansing with the CoQ10 toner and finish off with either the Vitamin C Serum or a pure Rosehip Oil.

What is the one product you can’t live without?

Honey! If that doesn’t count as a product, then the Soapwalla Deodorant!

What unsafe conventional product had been the toughest for you to give up?

Shared products in my household like toothpaste and cleaning products have been a tough one because my roommates and I don’t have the same safety standards. Another one is shampoo and conditioner because I go between cheaper alternatives to the healthiest products, like Rahua and Yarok.

Aside from skincare, what’s one ritual that makes you feel the most beautiful?

Being with friends and family that uplift me. There’s nothing that makes me feel more loved and beautiful than spending time with people I care about, having fun, telling stories and just being present and together.

What 3 tips would give others to help them feel and look beautiful every day?

1) Drink water!

2) Take time for yourself everyday, even if you don’t feel like you have a spare moment, take those ten minutes to breath deeply and center yourself.

3) Have a lipstick in your arsenal that you know you look great in and use as needed.

What’s the best piece of beauty advice your mother ever gave you?

Take care of your mind, body and spirit, everything is connected. Also, eat your vegetables.

What are your favorite foods that promote beauty from the inside out?

Dark leafy greens and healing spices like turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne, etc.

We often abide by the 80/20 rule. Treat your body right 80% of the time and splurge 20% of the time. So....what's your 20%?

Staying up past my bedtime and indulging in my unhealthy food cravings, sometimes these two go hand in hand.

What’s the biggest beauty mistake you ever made?

Over-washing my face and stripping my skin with what I thought was gentle (aka Cetaphil) *shakes fist*

What’s your favorite Follain product?

The Problem Solver, I’ve said it before but it solves all of my physical and emotional problems.

What DIY beauty routines do you do at home?

Honey masks, pineapple foot-baths and Epsom salt baths

What is your favorite way to stay healthy through exercise?

Dancing to live music

Isabel is amazing! Whenever I stop by Follian and she’s working, we (well, I) spend hours talking, sharing and exchanging beauty tips! I adore her! I’ll miss Follian and the staff when I move down to NC!

I’m glad to know her name, she is super knowledgable. She recommended some skin products that really helped me (including steering me away from Cetaphil). I’ll have to try a honey mask, good article.
